dramoth's Diaryland Diary Here is how I see it: There are tensions in the northern midwest states between whites and minorities, whether it is Hmong, Arab or Hispanic. These tensions exist particularly in St. Paul where Vang was from and where there is a large congregation of Hmong refugees. Can you imagine how the whites of Northern BuFu (bumble-fuck) Wisconsin feel about minorities? Put a gun in the hands of a group of men and remove them from society at large (take them out of the city council and put them in the middle of the woods) and what do you get? Men on a power trip. Look at the marine in Iraq: man on a power trip who decides to kill the other-type-of-person in front of him (Iraqi insurgent already wounded and unarmed). So, I bet that the hunters got to the Hmong hunter first, and told him to get down from their tree stand, threatening him with their own rifle. And I bet they were using language that is NOT appropriate, politically correct, or kind. How would you feel being caught in a situation, outnumbered, and being harrassed in the process? Then being threatened with a rifle? Depending on whatever move the white hunter made with his rifle, the Hmong might have felt it was shoot first or be killed. And then he's faced with four hysterical men all shrieking they were going to get their rifles and take care of him, and how far away from home was he? Would he get to a police officer to explain what happened before these whities got to him with their rifles? Would ANY white man in Northern Wisconsin take his word for what happened? Would they even understand it? Or would this turn into a shoot first and ask questions later situation? I seriously doubt the integrity of the white hunters in northern wisconsin, I believe they would accept the word of their own kind above and beyond anyone else's, especially a minority, especially when the incident has lead to the death of someone. So this Hmong, in my view, was caught in a bad situation and made a bad choice. But what were his options? No one is asking this question and it is pissing me off. It just points out how FUCKING CLUELESS America is to the realities that face minorities, to the realities of small town fuckups acting like little kingdoms that can do what they want because who is going to know otherwise? I hope the Hmong pleas self defense, and I hope someone looks into this deeper. I wonder if these hunters had a history of being racially intolerant, of facing poachers on their land before. Is it sad they died? Yes, of course. But people are dying every day, so maybe I'm a bit immune to the whole 'oh the sorrow' of it all. Get over it. Find out what really happened. This is what the NRA wants, isn't it? This is the purpose of owning a gun, to protect one's interests, right? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
